What Is the Invisalign System?

In reality, these trays are made of a special type of thermoplastic resin that’s strong enough to move your teeth into alignment. Your first step is an initial consultation. Dr. Lamiaa is happy to offer this free of charge! During this appointment, we’ll discuss your orthodontic needs and decide whether Invisalign is the right treatment choice for you. Once we determine you’re a good fit for the system, we begin the process of custom designing aligners specific to your smile.
Your Treatment Plan
A highly detailed 3D scan of your teeth and gums will be performed in our office. This scan is then used to map out a precise treatment plan for you. This plan will include the exact movements we want your teeth to make, as well as how long your treatment is likely to take. You may even get the chance to preview your new smile!
Custom Aligners
Your custom aligners will be created from Invisalign’s special SmartTrack® material. The comfortable plastic trays are virtually invisible, and the total number worn during treatment is usually somewhere between 10 and 48, with the total treatment time averaging between 5 and 15 months. In order to maximize their effectiveness, you’ll need to wear the aligners for 20-22 hours daily, throughout the course of treatment.

She is passionate about cosmetic dentistry and is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Dr. Lamiaa aims to provide incredibly compassionate care and always takes the time to listen to her patients and work with them to plan their health goals for the future. She also always makes sure to explain procedures and treatments to her patients so that they can understand every part of their care and treatment. Dr. Lamiaa also enjoys treating kids and understands the additional patience and attention they require when receiving dental care.
When she isn’t working, Dr. Lamiaa is a mother of three and loves spending time with her family. She also enjoys travelling, sports, and playing Pickleball.

Invisalign is both more comfortable and more discrete than braces. The clear custom-fit trays are hardly noticeable and most people won’t even realize you’re wearing them. Plus, they can be removed for important presentations or dates! The clear trays are also smooth against the inside of your mouth and don’t pinch or scratch like the brackets from braces. If your trays rub on your gums, they can be easily adjusted. Invisalign trays exert a gentler pressure compared to braces and only shift a few teeth at a time. On average, it takes anywhere from 6 to 12 months for your teeth to move into the correct position with Invisalign. Most people start noticing some movement, however, within the first 6 weeks after getting their first set of aligner trays. The more changes you would like to see, the longer it will take no matter what orthodontic option you choose.
Twice a day, remove your tray and clean it and your teeth before putting it back in. If you take your aligner out at any time, always rinse it before you put it back in, and try not to let it sit in open air when you aren’t wearing it. You may soak your aligners in denture cleaner or Invisalign cleaning crystals and carefully rinse them before putting them back in your mouth. Do not eat or drink with your trays in, and do not use toothpaste to clean your trays. We will provide you with detailed home care instructions when you receive your first trays.
No. Thanks to the removable nature of the aligners, you can eat and drink whatever you want while in treatment. In fact, you’re required to remove your aligners to eat and drink. So, unlike when undergoing traditional treatment using wires and brackets, there is no need to restrict your consumption of any of your favourite foods and snacks unless you are instructed otherwise by your dentist. Also, it is important that you brush your teeth after each meal and prior to reinserting your aligners to maintain fresh breath and proper hygiene.
Yes, even when you sleep. They should be worn all day and night, except when eating and drinking. Your clear aligners won’t work if they’re not constantly shifting your teeth over time, which means you’ve gotta wear them!
Over the course of treatment, you will be supplied with a series of aligners.
